Looking for Wyoming Ice whoppers

Post By: malty falcon      Posted: 2/8/2018 7:39:29 PM     Points: 4226
I am heading Through Wyoming from Colorado around Feb. 23-25, and have some time to ice fish. Wife and I are going to spend one night in Casper, and one night in Thermopolis on the way to Yellowstone. I had thought my best shot at memorable fish through the ice would be at Alcova or Thermopolis near Casper.

Does anybody have a better idea for executing my plan? I could also fish near Thermopolis if the ice is better, or there's a better option up there. I currently fish South Park Lakes in Colorado, and Blue Mesa, so I have some experience.

Thanks

Alcova is wide open. Try Jackson lake or Freemont

Malty,
Like said above alcova is wide open. If it stays cold for the next week it still would only have skim ice.
I'm not sure if pathfinder still has ice but I will look and see if I can find anything.
Goldeneye outside of Casper has good ice still. It's like elevenmile but smaller.
If you could bring the spinning gear or fly gear you should fish the spillways. Alcova, kortez and grey reef.

Near thermop is Boysen and it's spillways. Im pretty sure the ice on Boysen will be fine. The spillway of good fishing also.
Check out Bass lake Also.
Fremont lake has not frozen solid yet this year and may not.
But Pinedale WY is a great town. Check out some of the finger lakes around.
The lakes in and around the national parks are all frozen with good ice.
Keep checking the weather and road conditions.

Can you ice fish Yellowstone lake? That would be epic.

Alcova now has skim ice (again) pathfinder has good ice in most places. I'm with cp, ice those lakes and fish the tailwaters
