2017 OG/YG Spring Get Together
by: Tom McInerney , Colorado 4/11/2017
Occasionally, the FxR+
side has fishing get togethers. Folks will meet, usually on some well known water like Chatfield
, to fish, grill and talk (lie) to each other about fishing. Last Saturday was the most recent gathering, and it was a ton o’ fun.
This particular occasion was an OG/YG face-off. That is, a friendly competition between the hackneyed, brittle Old Guys of 50+ versus the handsome, virile and talented Young Guys below that line. If you’ve been a member for while, you may have caught mentions of ‘The Boot’. Well during these events, the winners earn the best prize possible: bragging rights to be lorded over the losers. However, the worst performer on the losing team gets The Boot. The short story behind it (I’m pretty sure) is IceFishingFool snagged it off the bottom of Cherry Creek Reservoir
while trolling and it looks and smells like it. It’s been a while since we’ve had an OG/YG event, and well… I’ve had The Boot for quite some time.
I was happy to pass it along to an OG this weekend.
Generally, the one with the boot organizes the next face-off and determines the rules. So after several re-schedulings due to lack of ice and then something about the OGs being afraid of bad weather, we had it this last Saturday at Boyd. One simple rule: the most inches wins. (Insert joke here) Catch a fish, take a photo next to a ruler, add them all up for each team, the most inches wins.
The morning started out great, but the winds really started kicking up around noon and got worse from there.
Final score after a half day fishing:
YGs: 272 inches
OGs: 124.5 inches
Goosehunter82 was the YG with the most inches with 52.5, but OG ColoradoRay pulled in 60.5.
As the OG with the least amount of inches, The Boot went to anglerwannabe, congrats Jim!
It's up to him to pick the rules for the next get together which sounds could be soon. Something, about maybe Eleven Mile
this fall. I’m looking forward to it.
The boot with its rightful heir

a little correction Tom, but close. The weathered "Stump" was one I pulled up from "Davy Jones" locker, thus at a YG vs OG challenge on Cherry Creek the losing team (YG's) it was determined they needed a trophy for being "Stumped" John Stevens aka "Tiny" accepted the defeat in style and having snagged the boot, I suspect was also part of "Davies" attire, was relentless, with unbound determination that his team would kick the OC's a**'es, After several tries, with the aid of cleverly disguise's passed him self off as being an OG, and learned the secrets of catching fish from the OG's. Much to his credit though is he did pony up and take lessons from professional guide's

Letting AWB make the rules has awesomeness written all over it! I'm not sure I'm giving the boot back with all the hardware it has attached! I actually have 2 venues in mind.. 1 at the mile, the other would range from Walden to Steamboat Springs, meeting back at N Delaney! Of course both are designed to be stacked in my favor! lol It was a lot of fun Tom. Great to put some faces to names.
