A little trick I did with my top water lures.

I have a ten year old son and he loves to fish alot with a Rapala's skitter pop at horsetooth, but he had a hard time of hooking the fish. Either the fish would short strike the lure or he would pull it away to fast. This is what I did, I added a extra split ring on the back treble hook so when the fish strikes the lure the hook would go deeper in it's mouth. It sets the hook 1/8" farther back. it doesn't seem much but this has made his catch rate with a skitter pop triple. This year he was all smiles. feel free to try this sometime... it makes a big difference.
Good Fishing to everyone.

Cool, nice tip. I will keep it in mind, and I suppose the same would apply for some other lures too...

I just saw the same trick in the "In-Fisherman ice fishing annual" magazine. They did that to their jigging spoons.

Try using suspendstrips from Storm. They will accomplish the same thing.

Ironically, I just read about that trick in a book last night. The reason they gave is that the split ring provides for more movement of the hook thereby giving the bass less leverage to dislodge it. I guess the reason it works is not that important....just that it works! thanks for sharing.
