Horsetooth Largemouth
Post By: namaru Posted: 11/4/2009 5:19:30 PM Points: 3
Hey everybody this is my first post! I was just wondering if anyone has ever caught any largemouth bass out of Horsetooth? It says that there in there from the species list of the lake, but does that mean there is a largemouth in there? Thanks

(heavily = over 40 days on the lake each of the last three years) Prior to this year, there always seemed to be one or two that were weighed in at the Full Moon Open, I do not believe that any were this year though. The Fishful Thinker or ronnycast are the lake gurus, so we better let them chime in on this one. HC Out! Reply by: ronnycast Posted: 11/4/2009 6:13:55 PM Points: 1201 Yes there are some in there. I personally have only ever caught 1 large mouth in the Tooth but Chad usually sees one or two a year and most years one or two are weighed at the Full Moon Open. There are very few of them in that lake and for anyone that is lucky enough to catch one in the tooth please practice C&R with them. I would love to see more bucket mouths in that lake but from I have been told they will not stock them in the Tooth. Here is the one 1 caught, it wasn’t very large, but it made my day just to catch one in the Tooth. It crushed a popper. Reply by: HeavyC Posted: 11/4/2009 6:18:37 PM Points: 1211 See what I mean! I have always thought they should pull some from Dixon every year and transplant them into the Tooth. Dixon has way to many little largemouth’s in it as it is and it could use to have it’s population thinned out so that they might grow a little bigger in there. I have been told however that that’s not on the DOW to do list any time soon. I know in years past some of the local bass guys have taken it upon them selves to transplant a few largemouth into the tooth and that is likely were they have been coming from, highly illegal and not the best idea to be sure, but that’s something that will be much harder to do from here on out as they inspect every boats live well as it inters the lake. They did well during the drawdown and have gone down hill ever since in my experience. Still, a few do get caught here and there. The pic is an average one, about 1.5-2 pounds . My biggest is just over 6 pounds on my scale but I got no pic so it don't count I suppose. I've had a few clients catch them, and watched a fishing guide women from Wisconsin catch a nice one. I wish there were more but more bait, not more teeth, is needed. CL Reply by: namaru Posted: 11/4/2009 9:56:47 PM Points: 3 Thanks guys! I was just looking around for a good largemouth fishery for next season. Maybe I'll be lucky enough to catch one of those tooth largemouths someday. It was nice to bring a largie to the scales from a smallie lake. I hooked one in the back of Eltuck cove on a spinner bug, not quite as big as CL's 6-pounder but it would have gone an easy 4-pounds, that is had it not spit my bait right at the boat.
