Post By: ducati Posted: 11/4/2009 8:29:32 AM Points: 112
I am looking at buying a eskimo quick flip II or III shelter, they seem to be the biggest bang for the buck, has anyone used these and would you recommend them? Oh and by the way in case anyone is looking at similiar items stay away from dicks and stores like that, there prices for the quick flip II and III were $399 and $599 while sportsmans wharehouse is selling theres for $299 and $399.

I have seen plenty of homemade jobs, and some are better than what you can buy.... Anyone that builds one: If you need any seams or zippers sewn in, contact me, and usually I can do it for a pretty decent cost. Reply by: nano Posted: 11/4/2009 2:22:08 PM Points: 2 I bought a Quickflip II last season and I really like it so far. I may modify it to recline the seatback back a little but I really enjoy it otherwise. It's just the right size for me and I like to be able to be set up in 30 seconds. Reply by: Bullyhunter Posted: 11/4/2009 3:00:05 PM Points: 1449 I have the quickflip II.Like JED said plenty of room for 2 but 3 is too crowded. The built in sled is awesone and makes set up and take down a breeze. Also you are able to move alot faster than the tent style cubes.I found this one on craigslist for $150 and it had only been used once.I would suggest shopping around, we still have at least 3-4 weeks before southpark starts to ice up.I would reccomend this hut to anyone from starters to the pros its awesome! It has been my experience, (since I owned a 2 man Frabill XLtwin) I always tended to take to much, seeings how I had so much room, which when it snows and there is a foot of snow on the ice, it makes it very hard to roam. Look at the Clam products, they are far superior to any fish hut on the market today for one, and two, there 1 man huts tend to make you downsize the amount of equipment that can be taken. If going with friends, the 2 man flips are second to none. I do agree that you should shop around. You will find something which will suit your needs. Reply by: kevtater Posted: 11/4/2009 5:18:06 PM Points: 162 ducati, I will again say it depends on who you are fishing with. My buddy has the quickflip 3 from sportsmans. Another has a comparable frabill 2 man hut. The two man is perfect for two guys. The three man is very roomy but very very heavy. If you fish by yourself a lot like I do get a 1 man. Easier to heat, easier to stay put in the wind, and like someone else mentioned you don't have a ton of space to fill with extra junk. Eskimo is definitley the biggest bang for your buck, and definitely get it from Sportsmans. Two man is a good middle of the road hut unless you plan to fish with three people all the time. Perfect size and they can help you pull it ) kt Reply by: Bullyhunter Posted: 11/4/2009 5:55:34 PM Points: 1449 Jed, nope thats mine. Here is a pic of the one you let my buddies use last year.It does kinda look the same. The auger looks almost identical to your old one , thats the one I got off craigslist. The guy was deploying to iraq and needed to sell it fast.He practically gave it to me.Only charged me $120 it started first pull! Here are some other pics of our first trip last year at Tarryall. And another from 11 mile Reply by: ducati Posted: 11/4/2009 9:15:21 PM Points: 112 Thanks for the replies, you all have definitley helped me to narrow it down to the 2 man instead of the 3 and to buy a flip style hut with a sled vs. a tent style shelter. I noticed there was quite a bit of weight difference between the 2 and 3 . I do fish by myself alot but I do get my girlfriend out with me quite a bit so the 1 man is out. It sounds like from your replies that they are very mobile as far as set up and take down is concerned, my buddy has a tent style 3 man eskimo it seems to get the job done but is kind of a hassel once you set it up and srew in the anchor points to be very mobile. Bullyhunter $150 is a steal, I will definitely shop around on the net. Thanks again, I'll see what alse I can get you guys to help me spend the family fortune on. :) Reply by: FishnPhil Posted: 11/5/2009 8:02:01 AM Points: 1 Hey JED, how can I get in touch with you regarding a repair? Reply by: FishermanFrank Posted: 11/5/2009 9:31:27 AM Points: 135 I went with a floor-less hut, the Eskimo Quickfish. The sled versions can be difficult to pull by hand and get loaded / unloaded, especially if you are by yourself. I got the big boy, the Quickfish 6. ($279 at Sportsman's) It's kind of like a cabin on the ice. It weighs 38 pounds, and sets up and takes down easily. Three people can use it, with two holes each, and still have room for gear. Theoritically, you could stuff 6 people in there, but it would be tight. They have a Quickfish 2 and Quickfish 3 model ($129 and $159?) that each fold up into a small bag with straps that you can carry like a backpack, if you choose. Anyway, I throw that and all my other gear on a sled. I also take a small aluminum table and a coffee pot, heater and small stove. All of the weight together is about that of many of the sled-mounted huts. If I'm at Granby, I pull it with an ATV. I'm trying to teach my yellow lab to pull the sled, with mixed results! Reply by: Good Sam Posted: 11/5/2009 7:41:42 PM Points: 458 Also, check out the new Clam lineup. They have some new hub-style tents with a floor. I wish that I had waited a year to get mine, but the Clam Basecamp works just fine for the 2 of us and Sissy (a 160# st. bernard).
