Union Rangers/Staff a JOKE!!!
Post By: WiperSniper Posted: 7/28/2010 9:54:38 PM Points: 141
So I took the day off work today and picked up my oldest from daycare and we headed up to Union... Got there at about 5 and sat by the docks and not a single bit for about 1 1/2 hrs. We didn't to move around and we finally got into some wipers. I set the hook on my pole and let my little man role them in. It was a blast for him and he learned about size limit and how to release a fish the correct way. Now for the rant about the Union Rangers/Staff... So as we were fishing/walking back to my truck, this lady just lets her dog loose and he comes charging into the lake and back out etc... Then she decides to throw a ball now... The ball comes flying our way and this dog (German Shepard) comes flying towards us to get to his ball... I snatch up my little man and put him on the table just in the time before he got plowed by the dog. At this point I am VERY upset and hold my coolness because of my son. I walk on over to this lady and said in a VERY clam voice that if she didn't know, the swim beach for pets is over there WAY more towards the east. She gives me the dirtiest look a 40 yr old lady could give me and just continues to do the same thing. Now, fishing had come to a complete stop and I am just pissed. I proceed to find a ranger or staff and tell them that she is letting her dog loose in a fishing area. I found one dude who looks to be stoned off his ass and he tells me "Go talk to that guy over there"... I go over there and "that" guy tells me that he is still measuring someones catch to make sure it's legal... I tell him that we will wait... This guy comes back up and shows this guy TWO TROUTS!!! he measures them and tells the fisherman "Okay, you're good"... In my head I am confused as to why he was measuring his trouts. Now I have the ranger/staff members attention and explain to him about the lady and her dog. After I am done he tells me thats he doesn't really see a problem with her letting her dog loose when no one is around... I tell him "SERIOUSLY"??? He just looks at me weird and I tell him this is a F'in JOKE and it's a even bigger joke he is measuring two trouts... He tells me thats the way it works... I turn in disguss with my son and we leave... Sorry for the rant guys but I am just pissed that it turned out like that... Next time, I am going to go fish at the dog swim beach and see what they say to me... Homer Simpson got away with this line so could I... "Its my first day" at least I will claim it's my first time here.... lol

Kids climbing on trees, playing in boat docks, littering wrappers, wading in fishing areas... Measuring trout eh, sounds about right. lol I also noticed most fishermen bailing out when it got like that...it's a real shame. Even as a Liberal I will tell you that these jackasses are out of their minds and have their priorities way out of whack. Reply by: Phishermin Posted: 7/29/2010 10:20:15 AM Points: 48 I haven't dealt much with those rangers, but that lake has gone way downhill over the last few years, to the point where i hadn't gone up for a few years, was in the neighborhood on Sunday so i figured I'd give it a shot... what a mistake! had to hike half way around the lake to find even a small piece of open shore, and when i did, the ground was littered with easily 100 empty Mussel shells, i fished for about 2 hours before the blasting music from the people down the shore and the filth around me chased me out. For an $8 entrance fee, you'd think they could afford a little law enforcement, i'm not saying gustapo, but maybe "hey guys, be sure to clean up those shells before you leave". I will not be going back again. Reply by: Bassackwards Posted: 7/29/2010 10:27:35 AM Points: 1516 While I was trying to fish this last Sunday, a guy was walking with his Golden retriever. Now I love dogs and bring mine almost everywhere. Luckily she hates the water. oh yeah back to my point. The lake is 200 yds each side and 65 yards at each end. I'm in the middle of one of the ends. About 20 feet from me I hear a big splash, and there's the guys dog swimming after his toy. Now I said hello to the guy, so he knew I was there. I got up looked at him and said "REALLY!, REALLY!, come on man. you see me fishing here". He lookes at me like I had 3 heads, but moved on. He had the rest of the lake to play with his dog. At least he did move on. Trust those folks don't enjoy hearing "beefs" from potential voters. Heres the email contact site for Longmont (Union Res) and I suggest you address it to parks. LINKGranted it might not change anything, but if your concerns are not aired with management rest assured nothing is likely to change, this way there is a chance. I used to be in a position of supervising field staff - if we're not informed, things won't/can't change. Tips for doing this: 1) Make your points concise and clear. Bullet points often help in this. 2) Show how you were affected: (I was enjoying a fishing experience with my son, when...) 3) Specifically indicate what the reservoir officials should have done (and why, if it's an obscure rule, of which the reviewer may not be aware). 4) State your appreciation for their follow-up. 5) Give a number where you can be reached for more information or for them to state resolution. This is important if you really want your complaint to be taken seriously. Anonymous complaints frequently don't see the light of day! 6) Then let it go - don't hold on - go enjoy life! Rules/regs are there for a reason - we follow them, and we expect the proper actions to be taken when other folks don't. I still want to fish it up but I will be prepared to see any or all of this happening. In that case I hope it fails to produce any of this. ie. If you bring your rain jacket it won't rain, but if you forget it in the car it will rain. Reply by: Gordie Posted: 7/30/2010 4:49:43 AM Points: 355 I've had trouble at Standley Lake, and Bear Creek Lake. I reported by email to the park manager. I also sent an email to the Mayor of each town. Just go to the top of the food chain. That can be just as bad as people with their dogs. You can't keep kids on a leash but you can watch them just the same! They can cause just as much grief to people fishing peacefully. What a shame that the rangers wouldn't even do their jobs and address your concerns though. Hope besides that it was fun to get out there with the lil one! Reply by: paulent Posted: 7/30/2010 8:09:50 AM Points: 532 over and over I read these posts. the common theme is about people with poor boundaries, little regard for where they end and you begin. it gets bad when you put people together in a small area. Reply by: cassmaster Posted: 7/30/2010 9:23:09 AM Points: 407 hahaha it the hole colorado dow thats the joke Reply by: elkskinner Posted: 7/30/2010 12:16:57 PM Points: 151 cass......just what does the Colorado DOW have to do with this? The guy is complaining about the park/lake rangers, not the DWMs. Explain? Reply by: Swigs Posted: 7/31/2010 9:57:01 AM Points: 1216 I could not agree more with Flyrodn. Glad you shared you experience but voicing your experiences in this thread does not go as far as possible to get to the root of the problem. As for castmaster's comments I'd suggest you volunteer for a project associated with the DOW it might drastically change your opinion. Thanks for the link Flyrodn. That's why I refuse to buy a fishing license, my personal boycott against them for letting all these stupid dogs and retarded kids run around and ruin my fishing. Reply by: Swigs Posted: 7/31/2010 10:35:06 AM Points: 1216 Such a boycott only punishes you, hope you get back outside in some capacity. You might want to edit your adjectives describing the future of America. Back to the topic at large, the treatment of this individual by Longmont Parks…..Accept my apologies for steering us off course. I hope more people follow your lead, that'll learn them EVIL DOW officers. Dont worry you bad DOW, I will happily pay for the revenue lost by boycotter's in order to have the lakes to myself. My fault I just realized this was our Betty troll. Reply by: Justin C Posted: 7/31/2010 11:23:51 AM Points: 11 so what happens if you get a ticket and don't pay it? I heard that they keep sending you something in the mail, but that you don't ever really have to pay it. Reply by: ducati Posted: 7/31/2010 11:27:48 AM Points: 1100 Good lord, did the two of you just get back from vacation together. Reply by: flash21 Posted: 7/31/2010 5:35:45 PM Points: 271 theres actually 3 of them. ugh!! Reply by: rdailey Posted: 7/31/2010 8:37:47 PM Points: 434 As I was saying before the power just cut out....... Union is not run by CDoW. They are City of Longomnt employees. Managing several parks and recreational fields and making basically no money at all. Please put your pitch forks and torches away. We volunteer there. I know it needs cleaning up and such. It's not perfect but its what we have. If we help it gets better. Please allow me to paraphrase. Help or shut up. Reply by: Bottom Bouncer Posted: 7/31/2010 8:45:14 PM Points: 636 Cass and others, Union Reservoir is run by Laramer County. Not the DOW or CSP So they have nothing to do with the Rangers at Union Res. Back to top...
