Built it the late 1970’s Mt. Elbert Forebay occupies a saddle on a ridge above Twin Lakes Reservoir. The 210 acre impoundment is surrounded by some of Colorado’s most scenic mountainous country. While the recreational opportunities at the reservoir are limited primarily to picnicking and fishing, the surrounding area is awash with activities.
Getting there: From Leadville, Colorado, travel south 15 miles on Highway 24, turn right (west) on Highway 82, travel 4 miles and take a right onto Lake County Road 24. Travel north past Lakeview Campground to the lake.
