Hit the Mile at 6am for a few hours. 15 below with a nice breeze. Anyway the ranger checked my license and said I was the only fisherman on the entire lake. We chatted for quite a while and he informed me that Antero will be closed this year to ice fishing.

From the 2017 Colorado Fishing Brochure, good thru March 31, 2018:
Antero Reservoir NOTE: This reservoir remains closed until further notice. Please check CPW's website for possible opening dates. 1. Bag and possession limit for trout is 2. 2. Ice-fishing shelters must be portable.
The NOTE has been resolved as of June.
#2 indicates ice fishing is permitted. I have neither seen nor heard any official announcement to the contrary.
The mafia and meth references were fictitious (not the hookers or ice road plans for this reservoir). Im totally serious that this state employee told me there were plans to close it for ice fishing. This is bad news for some fishing addicts. Good news for their spouses. It is good news because this lake in particular will become rapidly depleted during the 4 month period of ice fishing city occupation. 11 Mile has been depleted during the last few years as it absorbed the Antero crowd during closure. This state employee also confirmed its measurable depletion. The good news is that the fish at Antero will be even bigger this spring/summer/fall.
“SUPPOSEDLY” they close Spinney too, but that little gate has never stopped me, just have to pack light and be able to run...
I’m kidding by the way, but if they close Antero for ice fishing there’s gonna be quite a few pissed off hard water enthusiasts. I for 1 have been looking forward to getting on Antero again for YEARS...
One out of 2 aint bad. I was surprised when dude told me about the plans to close it this winter. People will hate me but I wish they would close 11 Mile also. Im ready folks. Hit me with both barrels.

SirGreg, Ice fishing doesn't deplete a lake. Eleven Mile didn't get depleted by ice fishing. I suspect by your tone that you did not ice fish. This phenomenon is called fear of the unknown. Since you don't ice fish, you transfer this lack of knowledge into fear that everything bad in the world happens when people ice fish.
you can seek counseling for this problem. I used to be fearful of adults when I was a kid, because they did all sorts of crazy things, like take away my candy. Then I grew up, and saw that adults are just a bunch of big kids. Get help for your fear, before you turn into a mumbling mess on the street corner.
Uncle Malty sounds like he is very familiar with the shrink's couch. Haha. Boat dock bay was frozen about 100 yards from north to south and the ranger said it was just open the day before. I wouldn't think 11 Mile will be ice fishable for at least 10 days. I hear we may have a change in the jet next week but watch the weather closely. Tell me more about your childhood Mr Malto Meal.

I've been ice fishing for years. If you know what your doing it can be a BONANZA! You have to get your big balls on. Of course there are risks driving there and back on 285 is! One year at Chatfield in early spring it was so good we had on our waders to get back to shore!
