I had limited time today but I need a fix. Midday and not the best timing I bounced over to chatty. I got my first cast in the water trying to find a rock... and indicator is gone. No way missed it. Fished a green leech and a Pheasant tail. Chuck it out again... wham !set and on. Nice 17" rainbow that fought hard. Chuck it out l get a little smallie. I fish a bit, no action so I switch it up to brown leech on bottom green leech up top. In all landed 1 nice rainbow. 5 smallies including one very nice fish that was pushing 18" made me smile. 2-1/2 hours of fishing..... I didn't think I get to fish at all..

Very nice. Nothing beats smallmouth on the long rod!

Smallies on flies under indicators.... this sounds like a ton of fun!

It was fun! I could only manage a few hours to fish. I went to my spot where we fish early season. A couple of fellas I know fish that area in the early summer for the smallmouth bite. I thought it could be too late in the year. For that spot to produce. It was not. Once I put on the brown leech I got most of the smallies. 5'-6' to bottom fly. The rainbow ate the pheasant tail on the second cast. Go figure... The 18" smallmouth is a personal best at chatfield. I had a largemouth swim by 2 times that was substantially bigger than any I had seen prior. I was Pleasantly surprised by the bite. Especially since I got there at noon. I wish I could have stayed until sundown.
