Lake: Pueblo Reservoir

Pueblo Reservoir "artic bass"

Post By: Golfprogreg      Posted: 7/25/2017 10:31:10 AM     Points: 0
This is my first time posting on this site. Hello to all. I am a Colorado Springs based angler mainly interested in brook trout, brown trout, and smallmouth bass.

However, I recently received some valuable intel from SGM that "artic bass" could be found in Pueblo Reservoir if one could only get past the voracious hordes of smallmouth and walleye. After a couple of scouting trips from both the shore and boat, I was finally able to locate one of these beauties.

The allusive Arctic Bass is still alive and well. Nice catch and if I am not mistaken that looks like a really nice Spotted Bass.

Thanks guys. I was also thinking that it was a spot which would be a new species for me. It was 18" and heavy and is still swimming. Lots of fun!

Thanks Diggin. Maybe you could teach me a thing or two about those leopard head trout! :)

SGM- I'll have to look in to that MA stuff.

Bharper- I wish I could join you. Knock 'em dead.

NIce spot, just a fyi... if that pig was 18 inches it could have been a new state record depending on the weight...

the current Colorado record for spotted bass is below and info was gathered off the DOW website:

Bass, Spotted 4 lbs. 7 7/8oz. 17.75" length Valco Ponds (Pueblo Co.) Michael Hardin 2005

Hey Dizzel-

It was definitely a fortunate catch for a first spot. I did get a good length measurement on it as I had been measuring a few 17"+ walleyes. Regarding the weight, I was guessing somewhere between 3.5 to 4 pounds. The problem with my guessing is that I tend to overestimate. However, I bet that fish in pre-spawn condition (full of eggs) could get close to the record.

Lots of fun !

Allegedly....allegedly...a guy in my club caught a 5+lb spot at Pueblo back in late May/first of June pre-fishing for a tourney. Possible? Sure. Likely? No. But that's his claim...
