nice day of fishing

So we finally hit the lake on Saturday morning. it was a nice day to be on the ice. We had the ice shack out but only set it up for about an hour to warm up the feet before we left . We fished most of the day in about 55 feet of water. Caught a few of the typical 18-20 inchers and some smaller. but missed a whole bunch of them. on that note, anyone have any good lake trout recipes they would like to share?

Glad you got a few. Laker on the grill is how we fix them. Wrap in tin foil with butter, lemon pepper, orageno and some garlic. About 10-15 minutes each side. Also smoked laker is great if you have a smoker.

I think I am going to try and hit Taylor this weekend. Ice still solid?

Yeah the ice wasn't bad. it still has the layers others have reported. we started out straight out from the marina, then moved west towards the dam as we moved west there was about 4-6 inches of water on top of the ice, under the snow.

My kids love trout cakes! Get a can of Old Bay seasoning and look for the recipe for Crab Cakes on the side. Just substitute baked trout for the crab. I usually season up the trout when baking to make it even tastier - blackening seasoning works great here.

Is the lake still covered in ice? Or is there open water?
