Has anyone been there recently? Is the ice safe enough to take the stepson on for his first ice fishing trip. Weather permitted we will be up there dec 23-25 for Christmas with my girls family that live there. Any tips would be awesome seeing as I have never fished grand lake before. Thanks, an tight lines gentlemen.

Grand lake was ice free last time I drove over to check. Shoot me an email, I can help you out with some other options and tips for the area. Coavs52@hotmail.com

Sharkman,

If you are unable to ice fisb Grand Lake you can always make you way to Willow Creek 20 minutes down across the street from Granby it is frozen for sure and has fun fishing.

I'm willing to bet its ready or will be by then. Call the bait shop to be sure. Sounds like its 3 inches + thick right now.

"go pro swim"

Do you have the need to see someone struggle and possibly die?

Anyway, I wouldn't get on any lake that has open water even if it is partially frozen in another area.

Grand lake always has some open water due to the pumping. Around the inlet bridge from shadow as well as the other side at the adams tunnel entrance.

As of Monday some areas with a good deal of snow on them and some completely bare as a result the ice varied a considerable amount even a few feet apart from 4 to 9 inches and of course there are also areas of slush and water on top of the ice. As mentioned above the spillway is wide open
