NAPA, Calif. – The Bureau of Reclamation announces that the reservoir at Lake Berryessa is expected to reach 440 feet of elevation over the next few days and will begin flowing into the spillway, known as the Glory Hole, due to high levels of precipitation and runoff into the reservoir.

Visitors are encouraged to use caution in and around the reservoir during this time. Please think “SAFETY FIRST.” Increased interest in the Glory Hole is expected to generate traffic congestion along State Route 128 in the vicinity of Monticello Dam. Consider timing your visit during weekdays when there is less visitation.

Visitors should be aware of possible mudslides and debris on the roads. Please check road and weather conditions before starting a trip.

Boaters are advised to use extreme caution when navigating the reservoir. Lake turbidity has reduced visibility of submerged islands and vegetation numerous logs and other floating debris has been washed into the reservoir from heavy rains.

Lake elevation has increased by almost 35 feet since January 1 causing unstable shorelines and sudden washouts. Visitors should exercise caution by keeping a safe distance from the water’s edge and remain on roadways and trails where provided.

For more information, please contact the Lake Berryessa Field Office at 707-966-2111 ext. 113 or visit the Lake Berryessa website at https://www.usbr.gov/mp/ccao/berryessa/ .
